Homecoming 2024

Mason Fox

This year's homecoming went smoothly for all the organization's members. A group of Saddle Tramps led by Bryson White (Denver, CO) and Declan Lowe (Olton, TX) set out to retrieve the pallets collected throughout the Lubbock area and surrounding towns on Thursday, leading to the next day's festivities. That Thursday night, we wrapped Will Rodgers and the poles on campus with our homecoming partner, which was Alpha Omega Epsilon (AOE). Then, as the night continued, the Saddle Tramps gathered around the Commuter Satellite parking lot to further our brotherhood until 6:00 AM. It was all hands on deck, and everyone was moving their cars to Urbanovsky Park to set up the bonfire ceremony. As the evening began, the Saddle Tramps were a part of the homecoming parade in which Bangin' Bertha was rung by our 1st Vice President, Mark Parrish (Prosper, TX). As the parade concluded, the moment all of Texas Tech prepared for was the lighting of the bonfire, which was done by several of our graduating seniors in the upcoming semesters. As the night concluded, the Saddle Tramps got ready for the homecoming football game against Baylor University, in which Tahj Brooks is getting closer and closer to beating the school record for rushing yards in a season with his touchdown celebration of him hitting his wrist.

As homecoming concluded, I could talk to the man who planned this whole process, Joshua Loubriel (San Antonio, TX). He reflected on all the hard work designing this process and stated that he was ecstatic to see that all the hard work could go as planned and flawlessly. He also noted some of the moments that were the most interesting for him, mainly finding the pallets' locations and the process that goes on for the Friday of homecoming. Josh then made a commitment that stood out during the interview, stating, "Do not stop when you're tired but stop when you're down, " which genuinely incorporates what a Saddle Tramp must be during this rigorous couple of days.
